From Aberdeen or Lerwick on NorthLink Ferries arriving at Hatston Pier, Kirkwall at 11pm.
From the north coast of Scotland on NorthLink Ferries from port of Scrabster (near Thurso) to Stromness arriving morning, afternoon or evening. This route passes the iconic 137 m Old Red Sandstone sea stack called The Old Man of Hoy. Drive time from Stromness to Kirkwall Bay Touring Park approx 30 mins.
Pentland Ferries operate a one hour crossing 3 times per day from a port called Gills Bay near John O Groats on the north coast to a small town called St Margaret’s Hope. Drive time from St Margaret’s Hope to Kirkwall Bay Touring Park approx 30 mins.
DIRECTIONS TO KIRKWALL BAY TOURING PARK
From Stromness
Exit ferry terminal and turn right heading east out of Stromness following signs to Kirkwall on the A965. As you descend into Kirkwall you will pass the Orkney Golf Club on your right before reaching a big roundabout where you take the 2nd exit. Continue to follow A965 along Ayre Road until you reach the next roundabout and take the 1st exit. Continue again until next roundabout and take 1st exit. Kirkwall harbour will be on your left. Continue to next roundabout and take 1st exit onto Shore St – you will see the Kirkwall Marina on your left. Continue 0.8 miles to the left turn on Carness Road and in 0.4 miles you will arrive at Kirkwall Bay Touring Park.
From St Margaret’s Hope
Take the road through the town up to the main road and turn left onto the A961. You will proceed across the 4 causeways, the Churchill Barriers , pass through the village of St Mary’s and then the road is straight all the way to Kirkwall. As you descend into Kirkwall (DO NOT FOLLOW SAT NAV – road is unsuitable for caravans) take the left bend down to a roundabout beside the hospital. Take 3rd exit and proceed straight along this road taking the 2nd exit at the next roundabout and then the 2nd exit at the next roundabout. Kirkwall Harbour will be on your left. From there continue to next roundabout and take 1st exit onto Shore St – you will see the Kirkwall Marina on your left. Continue 0.8 miles to the left turn on Carness Road and in 0.4 miles you will arrive at Kirkwall Bay Touring Park.
From Hatston Ferry Terminal, Kirkwall
Exit pier, turn left and proceed through Industrial Estate to big roundabout. Take 1st exit onto A965 along the Ayre road. At next roundabout take 1st exit and proceed to next roundabout, take 1st exit – Kirkwall harbour will be on the left. From there continue to next roundabout and take 1st exit onto Shore St- you will see the Kirkwall Marina on your left. Continue 0.8 miles to the left turn on Carness Road and in 0.4 miles you will arrive at Kirkwall Bay Touring Park.
